Souks of Dubai – Paradise for Shopping Lovers
Dubai, as we all hear the fantasy world with a lot of tourist attracted sights and destinations and a spice of traditional Arab people is not that old, in fact, it is only forty one years old. This city came under consideration after oil reserves of millions of dollars were found which made the transformation of old Dubai into the new modern Dubai. But still if we visit this city it gives a mixture of old places as well as the new one.
The UAE certainly believes that the bigger is better. The evidence for this is the Burj Al Khalifa, which is the world’s tallest building, Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping mall and Dubai Fountain, obviously the world’s largest fountain. So, Dubai is a beautiful city and at a glance it makes us forget that it is made on desert. The most beautiful and diversified are the souks of Dubai which offers a variety of things which helps to boost the economy of the city as well. So, let us take a brief tour of famous souks in Dubai.
Madinat souk is the re-creation of an ancient marketplace with Middle Eastern style and atmosphere. It is located in the heart of Madinat Jumeirah, the Arabian Resort Dubai. It is a unique shopping, dining and entertainment destination with variety of traditional things and accessories. If you see the entrance it looks like an old Arabian Desert but from inside it is structured modernly and is fully air conditioned. It is basically an indoor market with lots of small jewelry called trinkets, cups, shrugs, carpets, saucers etc.
Deira Spice Souk
Deira souk also known as Spice Souk, is the most famous in Dubai and definitely a place to visit. It is the old part of city and for reaching there you have to take a small Abra- traditional boat which is a lot of fun, ride across the Dubai creek. It has narrow roads filled with spices of each and every type. It seems like the world’s herbs and spices gathered under the sun. As we roam around we can smell the pungent aroma of cinnamon, turmeric, pepper, cloves, dried nuts etc. These are the fresh spices transported from countries like India, Pakistan and Iran.
Deira Gold Souk
Have you ever seen the world’s largest gold and diamond souk under a roof? If not take a trip to Deira gold souk. It is a heaven for jewel lovers. It is a fascinating place even for those who are not intended to buy anything from here. The first thing that makes you shock is the world’s giant gold ring called Najmat Taiba. Its cost is estimated to $3 Million but it’s not for sale. If you are thinking of security then I must tell you that these jewels are only kept in simple glass stores with no security in the market. I think because everyone knows about the strict laws of Dubai.
These are the few famous souks where one should visit while in Dubai, if not to buy but only to see the rise of economy through these souks.
